Lion's Bar
If there's one place you're guaranteed a party atmosphere in Macau – it's Lion’s Bar in MGM Grand . Here live entertainment creates a strong vibe for both dancing and listening to music - although it is not a disco most of the patrons are on their feet and dancing by midnight on most nights.
This is not the place to have a quiet conversation and contemplate life – be warned that when the band plays, it gets loud. Lion’s Bar is where pop, hip-hop, rock and even some rhythm and blues hits are performed by resident bands from Canada and America who enjoy interacting with the crowd. The band performs nightly from 22:00 except Mondays.
Peak times are of course weekends after midnight, but don't be surprised to find the club packed on a Tuesday night. Get there before 21:00 if you want to get yourself a table. During weekends, those arriving late may find themselves denied entry, as the bar tends to have reached its capacity.
Although only opened since the late 2007 MGM has already garnered the title of being the de facto "local hangout" as many expatriate professionals make this their nesting place on weekends.
The atmosphere lends itself to those who want to hear great music as well as meet and mingle. Although the dress code is relaxed, you'll find attire varies from women dressed to kill in tight jeans and minis as well as blue jeaned journalists and neck tied-professionals.
Most patrons tend to drink a mixture of beers and spirits and of course cocktails. Better value than the cocktails is the wine on offer. The wine list provides a great opportunity to sample some Portuguese wines at a reasonable cost, starting at about MOP300 a bottle.
If you venture to sample the array of cocktails don't miss the mega martinis made for two. As in most places located inside the MGM , the drinks are reasonably priced with cocktails beginning at around MOP55 and spirits and aperitifs at around MOP35. The staff tend to be generous with the bar snacks, so don't be afraid to ask for refills if you're hungry.
Just as they're not here to gamble however, most of Lion’s Bar crowd aren't here for the drinks either. Despite being located smack back in the centre of MGM 's casino floor, there is a certain intimacy that lends itself to the bar - and the atmosphere is the main selling point.
The crowd throngs for the good vibes and great energy and maybe the call of the wild.
